A walk in the snow ...

Anne & I started our Easter break by driving from Saint Malo down to Font Romeu in the Eastern Pyrenees. Every holiday we agree that "we should drive less and relax more" and promptly started by driving 864km on the first full day.

The weather worsened as we turned south off the Autoroute de Deux Mers east of Toulouse and had turned to steady rain as we passed through Foix.  Exiting the 5kmTunnel du Puymorens we watched the car's external thermometer drop steadily: 2C, 1C, 0C, -1C, ... as we gained height (Font Romeu is approx. 1650m altitude).  Fortunately the road did not freeze before we reached the town, but when I looked out of the hotel window during the night the road was frozen hard.

Font Romeu is the principal ski station of the Pyrenees Orientales and our reason for visiting was not to ski, but to go snowshoeing.  Snowshoes (raquettes) are very popular in France and every ski station has an area set aside for cross-country skiing and raquettes.

I have used raquettes before, but this was a learning experience for Anne.

However, all went well and we enjoyed a walk in the snow through neaby woodland.

Even I was looking good!

This snowdrift was deeper than Anne thought ...
